The rules governing the use of orphan drugs to treat rare diseases, have been made to the Law "On medicines and pharmaceutical activity" at the beginning of 2016. Previously, these norms are not legislation further stipulates.

The list of drugs that are imported for the treatment of orphan (rare) diseases, which approved the Uzbekistan Ministry of Health, included 129 drugs, the press service of the Ministry of Health. "Approval of a list of 129 international generic names of drugs in the future will solve the issues of the needy categories of the population with rare diseases in these preparations", - the press-service mentioned.

Ministry Representative said that at the beginning of 2016 the Law "On medicines and pharmaceutical activity" have been made to the rules governing the use of orphan drugs to treat rare diseases. Previously, these provisions were not provided by the legislation. "To carry out therapeutic measures these rare disease specific drugs the opportunity to import them into the country", - said the representative of the Ministry of Health Protection Department. Taking this into account, the changes in the law made it possible to carry out the import of expensive orphan drugs in Uzbekistan without state registration. In Uzbekistan are considered rare diseases which occur in no more than 10 persons per 100 thousand population. This list of diseases such as malignant neoplasms of lymphoid, haematopoietic and related tissue, hemophilia, leprosy, Wilson-Konavalova syndrome, as well as the state after transplantation of organs and tissues.
